HOW THEY ARE MADE
A whole lot of TLC goes into each pixie and mermaid.
Everyone likes to know how long the dolls taketo make. I start from scratch, so one pixie or mermaid takes an entire day. this is because I work in stages.
The bodies, arms, and legs are made by cutting and sanding wooden dowels. The heads are added on and the arms and legs and cords are assembled with metal rods and jump rings. They are painted and cemented and left for at least six to twelve hours for drying.
Faces are hand painted, then pixies are dressed, and mermaids tails are stitched.
Hair and wings are last to be glued and stitched, and finally, a label with story is fastened on.
After that, it's all a matter of pixie dust. Because every one must sparkle!
Mermaid tails come in a variety of shiny fabric that's hand stitched and designed to fascinate and delight. Genuine hand selected seashells are used for hair and shirt-top decoration.
My original handmade design is a self-taught technique
polished and perfected as something all my own.
Each pixie and mermaid's story is all original. Some are based on the characters from The Mossvale Tales series, while others tell of their special personality and purpose.
No two pixies or mermaids are identical.
